365 TESTIMONIES OF HOSPITALITY

I was born in 1983 at Kattupadi in Vellore, Tamilnadu, India. I attended a school run by the Sacred Heart Brothers. When I was in 8th Grade my parish priest asked me to accompany him to a remote village to visit some old and sick people. I did not want to go because they were very ill but he insisted that I go with him. When we arrived all the people were happy and welcomed our parish priest. He went to them every week to do whatever he could for them in a simple manner and to tell them about God. His hospitality to them and their needs was a big inspiration for me.

One of my friends told me that there is an Order of Brothers (the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God) whose members also care for the old and the sick and are very dedicated to this apostolic work. So I decided to join that Brotherhood. After I entered it was a bit difficult for me to adjust to the other candidates because we came from different parts of India. During my formation I worked in the Order’s old age home. I was very much inspired and interested by that ministry. In due course I had to make a big decision about my life and I made it in favour of making vows in the Order. Then the Order sent me abroad for studies so that I would be better prepared to exercise the charism of Hospitality.
