It was four years ago that I was lucky enough to join this House, of which I feel very proud to be one more member.  My daily work in the Germa’ Tomas Canet Foundation offers me the possibility to be able to share in the lives of the patients with whom we work (gravely mentally ill, confined by judicial order).  We offer them the professional, and even more importantly, human support, that their fragility renders essential.  Every one of us working here at the Foundation is keenly aware of the importance of respect for the dignity of the people we work with.  We accompany them in their daily activities; we help them and offer our personal and professional support; we are always there with that extra attention that this kind of person deserves.

My belief in the person, beyond his or her mental illness (but not forgetting it!) has always impelled me to seek better resources, more appropriate to their needs —which are sometimes expressed overtly but more often we need to be able to perceive them intuition.  By “resources” I mean participation in their activities and creating new projects which engage them, and stimulate their desire to live.

The basis for our work is the “bond”.  We have strengthened the tools for achieving this bond, through accompaniment in their leisure activities, helping them to feel part of a group, building new friendships among patients and offering a more friendly aspect to our professional presence.
