Norma Bulan

My name is Norma Bulan, RN. I was quite impressed to see the beautiful campus of St. John of God Retirement and Care Center, when, in February 2012, I took the job as Director of Nursing. Unlike the previous facilities where I worked in the past 20 years as Director of Nursing, the challenges that I face every day at St. John of God are not only to operate in compliance with state and federal regulations but also to carry out the mission and values of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God. To a health care provider, HOSPITALITY means to extend service to the people in need of quality care regardless of race, religion and financial status; to make them comfortable and make them feel better for the remaining days or years of their life. It requires unselfish dedication from co-workers to take care of the sick and the elderly. As a leader, it is my ultimate goal to keep the co-workers together as a team to provide quality care and foster better resident-nurse relationship and to support families emotionally and spiritually in their times of struggle. My personal benefit working at St. John of God is keeping my faith stronger in God when the “going gets rough.” I pray to ask God’s blessings and the wisdom to provide the guidance so that we all perform our duties with competence and compassion in providing the residents in our care a happier and comfortable life in their time of suffering.
