I have been a member of the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God in the USA since 1964. I have served in different capacities from being an RN to Spiritual Formation Director to our candidates who come to learn about our life, spirituality and ministry to the sick. Ordained to the priesthood in 1980, I served in different ministries as vocation director, Provincial Secretary and finally chaplain. I am a board certified chaplain and have served in our Province’s centers in Los Angeles and Ojai with our aging population providing emotional, spiritual care, end of life care for the dying and grief counseling. I have also worked as a hospice chaplain for St. Mary Hospice in Apple Valley. I am serving as a chaplain at St. John’s Regional Medical Center a Sister of Mercy Hospital in Oxnard, CA part of Dignity Health System. One of my greatest joys and challenges is to be a founding member of the Rachel’s Vineyard retreat team in the Los Angeles area for post abortion healing. What a gift to see the transformation of the retreatants from their anxiety, deep pain, inability to forgive themselves to finding a compassionate, merciful God who loves them unconditionally and who shows them how to forgive themselves and to reconnect with their “little ones,” heart to heart, soul to soul. Through these varied ministries over the past 49 years I have been able to bring the heart and spirit to those who suffer in so many ways.
