Pulido Fernandez

I come from a humble family, and had to go out to do heavy and badly paid while very young until, 15 years ago, the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God welcomed me in as a Co-worker in General Services where, thanks to the charism and hospitality, I learnt to serve lovingly and with commitment.

Two books have helped me to perform my work - “Yo San Juan de Dios” and the Charter of Hospitality.

In 2008 I was awarded the statuette “El Bastón de San Rafael” as the best Co-worker of the Provincial Curia.  In 2011, Brother Jairo Urueta, the Provincial Superior, gave me the opportunity to work as the Receptionist, and I have performed my duties with dedication to this day.

Through their way of life and their consecration to service, the Brothers have offered me a wonderful example by helping me, not only to change my own life, but also the life of my family and my environment – men like Brother Jenaro who blessed me with his weak hand as I offered him the last coffee he would take from my hands, and Brother Joaquín Gaviria who paid me the greatest tribute - “God has not come, but he has sent His angel”

I am very grateful to be part of the Hospitaller Family and I can bear witness l to the fact that a new generation of Brothers and Co-workers are transforming their lives to serve and to uphold the legacy of Saint John of God, despite today’s difficulties.
