My name is Brother George Joseph Tecku and I have been a member of the USA Province of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God since 1987.  Currently I live in, Los Angeles, CA.  Before I entered the Brothers, I attended Quincy University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Theology.  I served four years active duty as a hospital corpsman in the United States Navy. Honourably discharged, I tested out as a Certified Nursing Assistant. In both The United States Navy and in my two jobs as a nursing assistant I gained personal experience, professionally and spiritually, in caring for people who were infirm or dying. These experiences as a caregiver became the thread that drew me to become a Brother of St. John of God. Today, in my work as the Coordinator of Spiritual Care at St. John of God Retirement and Care Center, I am challenged to be understanding and compassionate with the residents and co-workers, encouraging them to be happy despite the grief and losses. I made my Solemn Profession of Religious Vows in April 1995. Over the years I have become more aware of how living out the values of Hospitality, Respect, Spirituality, Quality and Responsibility, are important in helping people to feel whole in body and spirit.  These last twenty – seven years in religious life, have been a joy to me and hopefully to the lives of the people with whom I relate with each day.
