I was born in Sydney on 7 February 1941but my early education was at Lithgow, a town that is located about 150 km west of Sydney. There I attended St. Patrick’s primary school and the La Salle Academy and the Lithgow High School. Our family was very involved in the life of the parish. After I left school I was able to combine my religious and spiritual life with my training as a manager in a large retail chain organisation. I came to know the Order through a cousin who was then a member of the Order and through a brochure on the Order that I obtained at a retreat. By January 1963 I had entered the Order to begin my initial formation. My professional training was in the area of nursing and with my skills in that field I served in most of the Australasian Province’s houses. Later I qualified as a Pastoral Care Worker. At present I exercise my Hospitality in a Court Support Program which provides comfort and assistance to anyone involved in the court system of Sydney. Those of us who work in that ministry offer a caring presence, a friendly face and a listening ear to victims, defendants, witnesses and their families. We try to bring our own empathy and understanding, without bias or prejudice, to anyone who needs it. We also liaise with court officials, police and legal aid. Currently I work out of Sydney’s District Supreme Court – one of the city’s busiest courts.
