When I trained as a paediatric therapist I learned to both exercise my professional skills and to serve people with my capacity for understanding and encouraging others. My aim came to be to help my clients to harness their own abilities to live a meaningful life. Being a paediatric therapist requires time, dedication, passion, patience and humility in the service of needy people. Not only do I receive and evaluate a child and formulate treatment plans, I also try to develop and improve the child’s cognitive skills and work behaviours. In this John of God institution I am freed to show kindness, compassion, hospitality and truthfulness towards the children and the elderly. This has deepened my perspectives on life. Previously, my circle for sharing and serving was restricted to my family and friends. However, here the sheer joy of sharing stretches beyond such boundaries. There is a strong motivational factor to reach out and to mingle with different personalities and those with special needs. It is an honour to belong here where I have learned to have a mutual recognition even if a stranger belongs to another religion or culture. The spirit of Hospitality here enables one to accept others as they are, and Hospitality certainly influences our daily life tasks and attitudes towards other people.
