Hospitality is the practical way of responding to our Lord’s command “love your neighbour as yourself”.
Welcoming someone into your own home and looking after them is only small part of the love that all of us ought to have learnt from the nails that transfixed Our Lord’s sacred flesh.
Volunteering to provide one’s own service is primarily a great opportunity, as well as being a great honour. You always receive twice as much as what you give and learn more by giving than standing by and listening.
Hospitality is something that cannot be expressed in at 250 word essay, or in an act of voluntary service, which are only ways of trying to put it into practice.
Hospitality means waking up every morning with your heart in your hands ready to offer it to your neighbour, beginning every new day, eager to improve the world with your own smile. It is the need to love which brings light to the morning and enables you to sleep peacefully at night.
Just by being hospitable towards the world can we truly feel part of it, living in harmony with everything that surrounds us.
Practising hospitality is neither a mission, nor a duty; is something innate l in each and every one of us. All we need is to release it in order to bring the peace which all of us bear within us to be able to build the bridges that unite all peoples under one huge banner – the Rainbow.
