Another brother begins his journey towards sainthood
On Tuesday 28 May, at the Shrine of St John Grande in
Jerez de la Frontera in Spain the Bishop of Asidonia-Jerez de la Frontera, Mgr
José Rico Pavés, presided over the opening of the Diocesan Investigation for
the beatification and canonisation of the Servant of God Brother Adrián del
Cerro, a Brother of the Hospitaller Order of St John of God, of the Spanish
Province. Having obtained the Nihil obstat from the Dicastery for the Causes of
Saints on 21 September 2023, on 14 February 2024 the Bishop published the Edict
inviting the Church community to express their views and submit signs of the Servant
of God's fame of holiness. Brother Adrián was a modest and gentle man who
always did good and saw good everywhere, a true son of Saint John of God always
dedicated to the poor and the sick. The Servant of God was born in Retamoso de
la Jara (Toledo) on 2 July 1923. He entered the Order in 1950, made his
temporary profession on 26 April 1952 and his solemn profession in 1955 in
Ciempozuelos. He spent his religious life raising alms for the poor, earning
everyone's love on account of his goodness and kindness. The Servant of God
died on 8 August 2015 at the age of 92, in silence, just as he had lived. On
that day, for the people of Jerez, a saint had died. His mortal remains lie in
the Shrine of Saint John Grande, at the foot of Our Lady of Candelaria, another
great love of his life. This first step in the Cause for his Beatification and
Canonisation sets the seal on the Servant of God's fame of holiness.
