On 15 July, on the first day of
the visit by the government of the Polish Province to Ukraine, following the
meeting with the Brothers, the Provincial Council met with the Prior, Brother
Lorenzo. At this meeting, all the issues concerning the aid and activities in
which the Brothers are constantly engaged to help the war refugees in Ukraine
were discussed. The Provincial presented all the detailed information regarding
the meeting of the European Provincials in Rome. In the afternoon of the same
day, in the town hall of Drohobycz, the mayor met with the Brothers and the
parish priest. During the meeting, the material aid distributed so
far was discussed. Since the first days of the conflict, many European
provinces have provided food, medicine, and clothing. The
Hungarian Province has donated an ambulance.
The mayor said that all this had been done in order to protect the health of the people who are in peril of their lives, risking poverty and hunger on a daily basis. The parish also distributed aid to those who have family members (husbands, sons and relatives) involved in the fighting against the Russian invaders. Food, clothing, detergents and medicines were donated. The army commander of the Lviv region received a new ambulance, expressing his gratitude also for the ambulance received from Hungary, as well as for the hearse needed for funerals. As a sign of gratitude, on behalf of Ukraine, he decorated the Order of Fatebenefratelli with the Medal of Merit and Act of Gratitude.
