MOVE project meeting in Lisbon
Hospitality Europe
Overcoming the restrictions of the pandemic and the insecurities of the
present time, the partners of the MOVE project met in person in Lisbon on 22
and 23 March to enthusiastically move forward with their activities to
rehabilitate patients and hospital users through motor and sports activities.
This project is promoted by Hospitality Europe and primarily involves the
healthcare facilities of the Order's Provinces (Hospitaller Brothers' Centre -
Kainbach bei Graz, St John of God Foundation - Lisbon, SGD Hospital - Santa
Cruz di Tenerife, SGD Institute - Genzano di Roma) together with the Sisters'
Hospitallers' Purissima Conception Centre - Granada.
The members were hosted by the Curia of the Order's Portuguese Province
and worked on a draft set of European guidelines and a protocol, drawing on
their experience and knowledge of the most effective methods for rehabilitating
and maintaining the psycho-physical health of patients through regular motor
activity and physical exercise practised in special areas within our social and
health care facilities. They were also hosted by the Portuguese national Golf
Federation, as part of the Federation's long-standing cooperation with the St
John of God Foundation in Portugal through its golf courses for psychiatric
patients receiving treatment in the Order's facilities.
Dr Galasso was also in Lisbon representing Hospitality Europe, which had
drawn up and submitted the relevant application for EU funding for the project
in 2020. The MOVE project will continue with regular video meetings looking
ahead to the next transnational meeting in Austria (Kainbach bei Graz) in May.
