The Brothers of St John of God have just commemorated their Centenary on this Portuguese island on 11 February 2022, in the city of Funchal, Madeira.

For the occasion, a bust of a fervent promoter of the Order in Madeira, Blessed João Jesus Adradas, was unveiled, and two renovated inpatient units were inaugurated. In the afternoon, Mass for the World Day of the Sick was celebrated, with Mgr Nuno Brás, the Bishop of the Diocese of Funchal, presiding.

Several dignitaries were present at the solemn commemoration, including the President of the Regional Government of Madeira as well as the Bishop of the Diocese of Funchal, Mgr Nuno Brás. In his address, the Superior General of the Hospitaller Order, Brother Jesús Etayo, declared, "we are celebrating this anniversary in simplicity, but also with a sense of satisfaction", and reaffirmed the Order's readiness to continue responding to the needs of the people of Madeira, working jointly with them, implementing new projects.
