In October, the EU Commission approved a further application submitted by the “Hospitality Europe” office for a new European micro-project dedicated to promoting physical exercise among patients being treated in a few healthcare facilities in the Provinces (the Brothers of St John of God Centre - Kainbach bei Graz, The St John of God Foundation – Lisbon, The St John of God - Santa Cruz hospital in Tenerife, the St John of God Institute – Genzano di Roma, together with the Purissima Concezione Sports Centre of the Sisters Hospitallers – Granada). The staff of the participating centres will share their experiences and knowledge about the most effective programmes for rehabilitating and maintaining the psycho-physical health of patients through regular motor activity and physical exercise practised in specific areas in the social-healthcare facilities. The project – with a 57,000 euro grant – will start in 2021 and will be implemented in accordance with all the safety precautions adopted in the EU Member States to deal with the current medical emergency.
Throughout this difficult 2020, the Hospitality Europe office in Brussels has also managed to continue its activities despite the tight restrictions on international travel and the severe operational changes imposed by the pandemic. The 5 European projects financed in recent years (EU-VIORMED, LET IT BE, SAVE, VICTORIA and BeWATER, with grants totalling over 1.3 million euro) moved ahead with remote and videoconferencing activities and were also granted extensions by the EU Commission until 2021 for projects expected to be completed later this year.
New proposals for European projects are being prepared and will be submitted in the coming months.
