Under the title DEAFplus, the Austrian Province is organising an International Conference in Linz on 28-29 March 2019, dedicated to the deaf. The main purpose of the conference is to foster the potential of deaf people with special needs.

The Brothers of St John of God Hospital in Linz has been monitoring and caring for deaf people with special needs for the past 20 years. This international conference will provide an opportunity to exchange professional experiences and to take inspiration from such issues as:

• Methods for enhancing the potential of deaf people (operational models, vocational training of professionals …)

• Social communications and development (autism...)

• Quality of life, physical and mental health

• Managing difficult behaviour

The conference is being organised by the Chief Consultant Dr Johannes Fellinger of the Institute for sensorial and linguistic neurology.
