Peter Nguyen Duc |
My name is Peter and I am in the second year of formation for profession of vows in the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God. I have double lines about my vocation. In 2006 I graduated from high school with good levels in accounting and information technology. I intended marrying a person whom I loved passionately. I belonged to a charitable group in my parish that used to visit and help people in rural villages. This provoked In me a strong sense of hospitality towards people who were living in misery and lack some basic human needs. I felt a certain responsibility for helping them. However, this response remained at the emotional level. I had no intention of offering myself to God in their service. As time went on my concern about the unfortunate people still occupied my thinking. I spoke with the priest and also my cousin about my concerns. I felt that I had to choose between love and marriage and the call of God to serve my neighbour. For me this brought about headaches and insomnia. Finally, after a lot of thought and prayer, I decided to put my Hospitaller Vocation before my plans for married life and dedicate my life to serving the poor and the sick as a Brother of Saint John of God. I thank God constantly for mentoring me and leading me on the path to a life consecrated to the services of His children – my brothers and sisters.
