New Autism block at Velloor
Kerala India
This project was initiated with the help of General Curia through annual campaign of Prior General for the year 2020. Thanks to the contribution of various Provinces of the Order and Association of France to help disabled young people (AAJIPH), the campaign raised 3,80,000 Euro for the construction.
The main
purpose of the new autism block is to provide service to the children with Autism
Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The new facility will enable early detection and
intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder. According to the
experts in the field, one can identify autism spectrum disorder, children at
the age of two. We see in the society the number of children with autism
spectrum disorder increases year by ear. If we can identify ASD children at
their early age, one can give necessary therapy and prevent the severity of symptoms
of the autism spectrum disorder. This is the purpose of starting this new
project
This is a
project of an extension of service provides at the St. John of God Centre at
Velloor. At the center there is already a special school with 200 differently
abled children. There are around 150 residential care and 50-day care children
at the centre.
Unfortunately,
due to covid Pandemic, it took some time to start the construction. End of year
2022 only the necessary permission was given by the local authority to start
the construction. We had to get approval from the fire safety department and
town planning departments and finally from the local panchayath. Finally, the
work started in march 2023. The work is so far progressing very well. By end of
this march 2024 the Centre hopes to complete the structural work and by end of
June, or July this year complete the whole construction works.
Residents,
co-workers and Brothers of St, John of God centre want to express their
gratitude to all provinces and people who contributed money for the completion
of the project.
