On Saturday,
5 April, the Vatican Pharmacy service community passed through the Holy Door of
St Peter's Basilica in the early hours of the morning to mark the "Jubilee
of the Sick and the World of Healthcare". For Brother Binish Mulackal, the
Director of the Pharmacy, this act provided an ideal opportunity for the
brothers and staff of the pharmacy to reflect on the value and deeper meaning
of their service, which, according to Brother Binish, must never be limited to
mere medication, but must always include listening and emotional support as
well.
Yesterday 7 April, World Health Day, the ceremony for the awarding of medals "for outstanding services to public health" took place at the Quirinale Palace in Rome in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella. The Prior General, Brother Pascal Ahodegnon, who was invited to the ceremony, received the certificate of honour and the gold medal awarded to our confrere Fiorenzo Priuli for his services to public health. This is a great recognition for our confrere Fiorenzo, who for more than 50 years tirelessly dedicated himself to health care in our hospitals in Togo and Benin, to the training of staff, to the creation of adequate health facilities and to the planning of health education projects, thus contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of the local populations.
