“Sant Joan de Déu Valencia”, is
coordinating assistance to meet the initial needs of the people affected by the
hurricane showing them their close solidarity.
In response to the tragedy inflicted on us by DANA, Saint John of God
Spain is at work in Valencia and in all the flooded towns to help to mitigate
its effects by means of hospitality and caring for people in vulnerable
situations, who are always present in the wake of every emergency.
It is working in close solidarity, elbow to elbow, with the solidarity
that exists between people who are assisting other people. The Saint John of
God Centre in Valencia, which specialises in homelessness and social exclusion,
continues working to accompany and assist help the people in greatest
need.
From the very first moment, were started organising the assistance to cover immediate needs, such
as food, clothing, hygiene and protection items, and workers from the Centre
travelled to the affected villages on foot or by bicycle to accompany the most
vulnerable neighbours, buying and distributing what they needed.
Initially, and in coordination with the Valencia City Council and the
Generalitat Valenciana, basic and emergency items have been provided, as well
as emergency accommodation for people needing it. We are also accompanying
victims belonging to our Centre, the co-workers and their loved ones, who are
also being given emotional and psychological support.
Saint John of God is committed to helping the people who need it most
and to continue caring for the homeless in the city of Valencia and the
emergency centres.
