On 19 May 2023, a ceremony was held to confer the Medal of Merit and Certificate of Recognition on the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God Foundation [Fundação Ordem Hospitaleira de São João de Deus]. The ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Lahane, Dili, the capital of East Timor, and the award was made by the President of the Democratic Republic of the country, José Manuel Ramos Horta. Also honoured were 99 other personalities, both domestic and foreign, who are working on behalf of the Timorese people in the process of national development.

It is worth noting that on 17 February 2023, the President of the Republic had paid a family visit to the Saint John of God Health Care Centre [Centro de Apoio à Saúde São João de Deus] at Laclubar, to see for himself the reality of the Centre and the services being delivered by the Brothers and Co-workers to accompany, psychosocially rehabilitate and socially reintegrate people with disabilities and mental illnesses. The President of the Republic has acknowledged the effort and sterling work of the Hospitaller charism and mission on behalf of the Timorese people, particularly by supporting and devoting themselves to people with disabilities and mental illnesses. He therefore decided to award the honour to the Centro de Apoio à Saúde São João de Deus in Laclubar and to its guardian Foundation.
