The General Bioethics
Commission met on 14 and 15 October 2022, attended by Brother Joaquim Erra
(Commission President), Sister Margarita Bofarull, Dr Silvia Oger representing
the Latin America Region, Brother Hugues Assou representing the Africa Region,
Dr Maria Lee representing the Asia-Pacific Region, Brother Robert Moore
representing the WEONA Region, Sister Paula Carneiro representing the Sisters Hospitallers,
Dr Salvino Leone representing the Europe Region, attending via Zoom, and Brother
André Sčne (Commission Secretary).
Apologies were
received from Mrs Maria Isabel.
The main purpose of
this meeting was to continue to implement the activities undertaken to meet the
Bioethics objectives set for the Sexennium.
The following items
were on the agenda:
The completion of the
document on the methodology for disseminating the Code of Ethics, presented by
Dr Silvia Oger.
Environmental
protection in the light of the Charism, presented by Brother Hughes
Bioethics standards
developed by the Western European Province presented by Brother Robert Moore
The Covid-19 Position
Paper, presented by Dr Salvino Leone, intended to be short text shared with the
Provinces on the ethical dilemmas raised by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Brother Joaquim
concluded the meeting announcing that the next meeting would be held on 9 June
2023 and thanked the members of the Commission present for their service and
wished them a safe journey home and best wishes for the work ahead.
