The distribution of the Nadia KITS

In Ukraine after weeks of preparation in Poland, the distribution of the Nadia kits began. These are gift packages specially designed for the youngest children, whose parents and guardians have been fighting the Russian invasion since February 2022. The ''Nadia kit'' project (nadia - from the Ukrainian word for hope) was started by the Ukraine Emergency Team, set up at the Order's General Curia to help and support the Ukrainian people – victims of this conflict.

The kit includes selected food products (mainly sweets and candies, juices, flavoured milk, potato crisps), school supplies, and backpacks specially produced for this initiative. The project, worth over €50,000, has been financed using the funds raised by the Order of St John of God and the Sisters Hospitallers, as well as by individuals and charities in Spain, Italy, France and Portugal, as part of the campaign being run by the Order of St John of God in Europe.

The products have been purchased in Poland and then transported to Drohobycz, Ukraine, where, with the help of volunteers, they have been packaged.

Yesterday, 2 August 2022, was the first the delivery date of the kits/ gifts. The first 120 went to the Polish school in Drohobycz. The children were absolutely overjoyed! Their faces shone joy and happiness on receiving the gift, and they were all particularly appreciative of the backpack bearing the logo of the Order of St John of God. The children said that "the backpack is very useful – and you can use it both for school and for travelling", as they rapidly devoured the sweets and candies from the packages!

In the first phase, 5000 Nadia kits have been prepared. The donation campaign will continue until 15 August 2022. Another 100 kits have already been picked up by the pastor of a friendly parish and 200 kits will go to the local community in Drohobycz next Friday.Our sincere thanks are due to all those who have helped to make this possible.
