Under the motto
"Needs assessment as an important tool in motivating vulnerable
people", the first transnational meeting of the MOVE ("MOtivating
patients to Voluntary physical Exercise" Project, Grant Decision No.
621951-EPP-1-2020-1-AT-SPO-SSCP) funded under the Erasmus+ programme took place
in Granada on 30 September and 1 October 2021. The project coordinator is the
Austrian Brothers of St. John of God Centre in Kainbach/Graz. This EU project
has been promoted by the Brussels Hospitality Europe office.
The purpose of the
project partnership is to network and exchange best practices and approaches to
motivate people with disabilities or mental illness to increase their physical
activity, all based on a holistic concept of health.
Considering that people
are more motivated to take up physical exercise when their individual needs are
met, the project partners -- Fundação S. João de Deus/Lisbon, Instituto San
Giovanni di Dio/Genzano-Roma, Club Deportívo Purísima Concepcíon/Granada and
Hospital San Juan de Diós in Santa Cruz/Tenerife -- shared and discussed their
assessments of the basic criteria for identifying the clients' psychophysical
needs.
Several local experts
also spoke on the topic, including Mr Jose Antonio Huertas (Deputy Mayor of
Granada and Councillor for Sport & Finance), Ms Cristina Manzano (Special
Olympics Andalusia), Ms Rocío Suárez (Special Olympics Andalusia) and Ms Rocío
Bírrez (Special Olympics Andalusia).
The meeting was held in
a cordial atmosphere, with valuable meetings, and constructive discussions.
The next transnational meeting will be organised in Lisbon in mid-December.
