For several years now, the Bavarian Province of Fatebenefratelli has been awarding prizes for selected theses from the Faculty of Social and Applied Health Sciences of Regensburg University dealing in an exemplary manner with issues relating to care for people with physical and mental disabilities, rehabilitation, care for the elderly, social care in hospitals, care for the homeless and the Christian vision of man and ethical issues.

This year 6 students received their awards, for the first time by videoconference, in the presence of about 50 people.

Representing the Order was Brother Thomas Väth who referred to the scientific work of the winners, pointing out that the social professions were being called upon today, more than ever before, because of the corona virus pandemic. Confronted by the present crisis it is more necessary than ever to develop new ways of assisting people in difficulties due to the current restrictions, guaranteeing them regular social contacts that are "essential to everyone's life".

The 2020 prize-winners

- 1st prize (1,500 euro ex aequo): Rebekka Alena Mathis (BA in Social education). Thesis on Social care based on music-therapy and movement when accompanying the bereaved.

- 1st prize (1,500 ex aequo ): Gudrun Bahr (MA in Management and Communication Management). Thesis on Challenges facing young people with ADHD in the transition from school to work: how to help them?

- 2nd prize (1,000 ex aequo): Eva Pichlmeier (BA in Social Education). Thesis on Determining the added value of a social service with the help of Social Return on Investment.

- 2nd prize (1,000 ex aequo): Christiana Porwoll BSc In Nursing Sciences). Thesis on Intercultural care - the impact of Ramadan on Muslim diabetics.

- 2nd prize (1,000 ex aequo): Carina Schmoll (BSc in Nursing Sciences). Thesis on How does night work affect the sleep of nursing staff? What measures may improve sleep after night duty?

- 3rd prize (500): Leonie Walter (BSc in Physiotherapy): Thesis on Physiotherapy training opportunities in Tanzania: How do Tanzanian physiotherapists consider the training and physiotherapy opportunities in their country? What are the challenges and opportunities in terms of current training opportunities?
